DEFINITION

What it means

Definition

Revenue per share is total annual revenue divided by diluted shares outstanding. It measures how much top-line sales each share of stock represents, independent of profit margins or accounting choices. Investors use it alongside price-to-sales ratio to gauge whether a stock is cheap or expensive relative to its revenue base — particularly useful for early-stage or cyclical companies where earnings are thin or volatile. Declining revenue per share over time can signal share dilution is outpacing sales growth.
