◈ ABOUT

About Dave Ramsey

Dave Ramsey is a personal finance author, radio host, and the founder of Ramsey Solutions, a financial education company based in Franklin, Tennessee. His most widely read book, The Total Money Makeover (2003), has sold millions of copies and laid out his signature 7 Baby Steps — a prescriptive, debt-elimination-first framework for building financial stability.

Ramsey's core philosophy centers on eliminating all consumer debt (including mortgages) before investing, relying entirely on cash and debit rather than credit cards, and building wealth through consistent saving and giving. His approach is notably prescriptive and evangelical in tone — critics note that it does not account for the mathematical advantages of low-interest debt in some scenarios, while supporters credit its simplicity and psychological momentum for helping millions of households escape debt.

His daily radio show, The Ramsey Show, reaches millions of listeners and is one of the longest-running personal finance broadcasts in American media. Ramsey Solutions has expanded into financial coaching certification, real estate agent referrals (Endorsed Local Providers), and related products.

Before building his media business, Ramsey experienced a personal bankruptcy in his late 20s after over-leveraging in real estate. That experience forms the foundational narrative behind much of his work and gives his debt-avoidance message personal grounding.
